WOD with GOD

Do feel like you have grown as a Christian or stayed at the same level?  How do we grow as Christians?  Satan desires to keep us small and ineffective but God wants us to grow.  What keeps you from growing?  Ask God to show you and help you overcome these obstacles.

 We ought always to thank God for you, brothers and sisters, and rightly so, because your faith is growing more and more, and the love all of you have for one another is increasing.  Therefore, among God’s churches we boast about your perseverance and faith in all the persecutions and trials you are enduring.
2 Thessalonians 1:3-4

God’s timing is hard for us to understand.  God never acts impulsively on our behalf and we shouldn’t either.  We will get farther if we are move slowly and carefully.  We won’t lose if we wait on the Lord.  Mistakes are made when we feel rushed.  Always take time and pray about decisions.

 There is a time for everything,
   and a season for every activity under the heavens
Ecclesiastes 3:1

Always be on guard against Satan’s schemes.  The devil is like a lion that walks about and seeks to devour. We should know better when we are tempted to enter a plan that is not what the Lord has for us.  Remember we are heirs to Christ throne.  Don’t ever settle for less when you are a child of the King!

Praise the LORD, my soul.
 LORD my God, you are very great;
   you are clothed with splendor and majesty.
 The LORD wraps himself in light as with a garment;
   he stretches out the heavens like a tent
Psalm 104:1-2

  I delight greatly in the LORD;
   my soul rejoices in my God.
For he has clothed me with garments of salvation
   and arrayed me in a robe of his righteousness,
as a bridegroom adorns his head like a priest,
   and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels.
Isaiah 61:10

 A reverential fear of the Lord is a wholesome motive in our lives to want to please Him and it affects how we deal with others.    We will make wiser decisions in life if we fear our heavenly Father.

The angel of the LORD encamps around those who fear him,
   and he delivers them.
  Taste and see that the LORD is good;
   blessed is the one who takes refuge in him.
Fear the LORD, you his holy people,
   for those who fear him lack nothing.
The lions may grow weak and hungry,
   but those who seek the LORD lack no good thing.

Psalm 34:7-10

When we live a life of fellowship with the God, we are assured of His protection.  We can go through life knowing He will defeat our foes.  Our faith has to be in the Lord because nothing else will give us a peace apart from Him.

 He will not let your foot slip—
   he who watches over you will not slumber;
indeed, he who watches over Israel
   will neither slumber nor sleep.

  The LORD watches over you—
   the LORD is your shade at your right hand;
the sun will not harm you by day,
   nor the moon by night.

  The LORD will keep you from all harm—
   he will watch over your life;
the LORD will watch over your coming and going
   both now and forevermore.
Psalm 121:3-8

If you like to plant a garden, you are probably making preparations now.  You have to till the soil before you plant your seed.  After you plant the seed, you have to weed, water and sometimes spray for bugs.  Gardens are like our walk with God.  Once the seed is planted, if you leave it unattended you are not going to reap the harvest you could if you took the time to care for it.  The seeds of our faith with multiply and flourish with a daily walk with God.

  Sow your seed in the morning,
   and at evening let your hands not be idle,
for you do not know which will succeed,
   whether this or that,
   or whether both will do equally well.
Ecclesiates 11:6

Have you heard of strongholds?  A stronghold is anything that masters you.  Thoughts play a big part in who we are and how we live our life.  “It is easier to pull a weed than pull a tree out of the ground,” Hammond.

 Our thoughts can be mastered by our past, so deep rooted that it controls our actions for the rest of our life. It doesn’t stop there.  Then we infiltrate our children with this.  These are sometimes called “generational strongholds.”  “Strongholds are our way of thinking and living that create a fortress where Satan has dominion rather than God in your life.,” Hammond.

So, how do we stop this?  Trust in the Lord with ALL your heart and lean not into your own understanding.  Ask God to tear down these walls of opposition that keep you from running the race that God has set before you!

 For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does.  The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds.  We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.
2 Corinthians 10:3-5

Looking back in your past, do you see God’s mercy and grace.  Do think I can’t believe I’m still alive!  All the stupid mistakes made.  Are you thankful for lessons learned. Do you beleive that God forgives you from your sins?  Why do we keep beating our self up over our mistakes?  God says he cast them as far as the east is from the west?

 “People who never look at the past in thanksgiving will never look at the future with appreciation.”

I don’t know who wrote this but I love it.  I am thankful the potter didn’t throw me away when I was a miry mess.  I took a ceramics class in college and we got to make pottery.  I made alot of pottery that only my momma would love.  It is extremely hard and takes alot of patience. When you get a clump of clay you have to add water to make it more pliable and start pulling on it making the vessel you want.  We are vessels made by God for a purpose.  It is like the verse in the hymn, Have thine own way Lord, “Mold me and make after thy will, while I am waiting yielded and still. ”

  Yet you, LORD, are our Father.
  We are the clay, you are the potter;
  we are all the work of your hand.
Isaiah 64:8

The world can be overwhelming if we try to take it on by ourselves.  Faith is the greatest weapon against the world.  1 John 2:15-16 says this about the world;  Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, love for the Father is not in them. For everything in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—comes not from the Father but from the world.  Have faith in Jesus Christ who has set you free from the bondage of sin.  It is a gift that you have to receive.

 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—Ephesian 2:8

I found this and loved the way it is worded.  Rejoicing in the Lord at all times!  Our confidence has to come from the Lord.

It is your privilege, it is your duty, to rejoice in God; — not in your health, your wealth, your children, your prosperity, but in the Lord.” There is the unchanging and unbounded source of joy. It will do you no harm to rejoice in the Lord; the more you rejoice in Him, the more spiritually-minded will you become. “Finally, my brethren.” That is, even to the end, not with you the bitter end; but even to the end of life, rejoice in the Lord. Make this the finisof everything, the end of every day, the end of every year, the end of life. “Finally, my brethren, rejoice in the Lord.” Blessed is that religion in which it is a duty to be happy.~Spurgeon

For we are the circumcision, which worship God in the spirit, and rejoice in Christ Jesus, and have no confidence in the flesh.
Phillipians 3:3
