What is your faith in?  Hebrews 11 is the faith chapter in the bible and is a great book to read to be reminded of what God has the power to do in our lives.  The beginning of Hebrews is worded beautifully, “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. For by it the elders obtained a good report.  Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.”  It is the substance of what we hope for.  What is that substance in your life?  Sometimes we are really close to God, usually when we need Him the most.  Other times when all is well we get too big for our britches and forget Him.  If you have time read this whole chapter, it will encourage you!

And what shall I more say? for the time would fail me to tell of Gedeon, and of Barak, and of Samson, and of Jephthae; of David also, and Samuel, and of the prophets:  Who through faith subdued kingdoms, wrought righteousness, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions.  Quenched the violence of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, out of weakness were made strong, waxed valiant in fight, turned to flight the armies of the aliens.”  Hebrews 11:32-34

In Christ alone is all we can be sure of.   Our confidence is very short lived if it is not in the Lord.  Our source of strength and knowledge should come from His word everyday.  When we fail to do that we make wrong decisions and place importance on things that don’t really matter.  We cannot have a false assurance of our salvation or our relationship with Christ.  Because He is the only constant, yesterday, today and tomorrow.

Jesus said, “I am the way and the truth and the life.  No one comes to the father except through me.”  John 14:6

This poem titled “Footprints in the Sand”, is one of the most encouraging poems ever written.  If you are going through a trial or know someone that it is, share this with them.  God will never leave you.  Sometimes we feel all alone admist the storm.  But, know that you are not and that God is always there for you.

One night I dreamed I was walking along the beach with the Lord. Many scenes from my life flashed across the sky.

In each scene I noticed footprints in the sand. Sometimes there were two sets of footprints, other times there was one only.

This bothered me because I noticed that during the low periods of my life, when I was suffering from anguish, sorrow or defeat, I could see only one set of footprints, so I said to the Lord,

“You promised me Lord,
that if I followed you, you would walk with me always. But I have noticed that during the most trying periods of my life there has only been one set of footprints in the sand. Why, when I needed you most, have you not been there for me?”

The Lord replied, “The years when you have seen only one set of footprints, my child, is when I carried you. ~ Mary Stevenson, 1936

Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content
with what you have, because God has said,

   “Never will I leave you;
   never will I forsake you

  Hebrews 13:5

Since our family has been on the mission of eating clean, when we go out to eat it has become somewhat humorous.  My husband is the waiter/waitress’ worse nightmare.  His main request is no salt, no seasoning.  We recently stopped at a Cracker Barrel on the way home from a trip and the waitress looks at him like he is crazy.  One thing we have found in our diet is that since we have eliminated salt, now when we have it causes us to be thirsty.  After eating Mexican, I could go stick my head in a creek and never quench my thirst.

As Christians we are to be the salt and  create others thirst for the Lord.  Our home, lifestyle and our response to others should reflect our walk with God and the need for Him in our life.  We should make others thirsty for the Living Water, just like after eating salty foods we crave water.

And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely.
Revelation 22:17

Character is who we are when we are alone.  Often our character can be a false impression when we around others.  The traits that form our nature are often displayed behind closed doors.  Do we always have the right heart and say things that glorify God?  God knows our heart and who we are all the time.  We cannot hide anything from Him.

Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit.
Matthew 7:17

The word defence is defined as, resistance against danger, attack, or harm; protection
or a person or thing that provides such resistance .  The Lord is our defence from the evil that surrounds us and our family.
We should always pray that protection every day.

Blessed is the people that know the joyful sound: they shall walk, O LORD, in the light of thy countenance.
In thy name shall they rejoice all the day: and in thy righteousness shall they be exalted.
For thou art the glory of their strength: and in thy favour our horn shall be exalted.
For the LORD is our defence; and the Holy One of Israel is our king
Psalm 89:15-18

This story of the Sand Dollar is something many people don’t know.  We always try to find these when we go to the beach.
So, if you find one now you will you know the great story this beautiful shell tells….

The Legend of the Sand Dollar

There’s a lovely little legend that I would like to tell,
of the birth and death of Jesus,
found in this lowly shell.

If you examine closely,
you’ll see that you find here,
four nail holes and a fifth one,
made by a Roman’s spear.

On one side the Easter lily,
its center is the star,
that appeared unto the shepherds
and led them from afar.

The Christmas Poinsettia
etched on the other side,
reminds us of His birthday,
our happy Christmastide.

Now break the center open,
and here you will release,
the five white doves awaiting,
to spread Good Will and Peace.

This simple little symbol,
Christ left for you and me,
to help us spread His Gospel,
through all Eternity.
The five slits representing the wounds on Christ when on the cross, the Easter lily with a star in the middle representing
the star of Bethlehem and on the back is the outline of a Poinsettia, the Christmas flower. The Legend of the Sand Dollar also
tells of the 5 dove’s that are inside and how when the sand dollar is broken open it spreads good will and peace.

Do you ever feel like you have mental block?  Nothing makes sense and it is hard to make decisions.  When our earthly priorities prioritize our life, we start to have problems.  When God is our priority he makes every thing fall into place.  Our relationship shouldn’t be squeezing in some time here and there.  He is our priority and there is no confusion because He makes it clear for us.

Who is the man who fears the LORD? He will instruct him in the way he should choose.
Psalm 25:12

Does hope ever run out?  Do you feel like some days you are on short supply?  What causes us to give up on our goals, rather big or small?  When we pray about our decisions and constantly place our hope in God, we will succeed.  We are transformed by the renewing of our mind through Christ.  Don’t look back in the past and strive forward.  God is never in short supply of hope.  He is like a well of water that never goes dry, we just fail to go to him when we are thirsty.

But I will hope continually, and will yet praise thee more and more. Psalms 71:14

We develop endurance when we work out everyday. Every day you get stronger, breathe better, your performance and endurance improves.  When we take a week off or sometimes longer, we come back and feel like we are going to die. It is the same with our spiritual endurance.  It only improves with daily time spent strengthening our faith with God.  When we take time away from God, our performance in life weakens.  We allow our circumstances to weigh us down, we can’t breathe because our faith is low and we have allowed fear and worry to creep in.  The best way to keep you spiritual endurance at its peak performance is don’t miss a day!  Feed your heart, soul and mind with the Truth of God and stay close to Him.

My flesh and my heart may fail,
but God is the strength of my heart
 and my portion forever.
Psalms 73:26
