Each day, we should spend time alone with God.  But the demands of everyday living often rob us of those precious moments with our Creator.  The cycle is so predictable and eventually conspires to happen to all of us.  We become so busy with the inevitable distractions of daily life that we fail to carve out quiet moments with the one who created us.  And when we fall into this, we suffer because of our misuse of time.  We live in a world filled to the brim with distractions, temptations, frustrations, and mandatory obligations.  However, our need for God is much greater.  We must often consult with him, and we must make time to consult with him in solitude, so we can hear him and not the constant distractions of our busy lives.  No time during the day is more valuable than the quiet time we spend devoting to communicating with God.

Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day.~2 Corithians 4:16

WOD with GOD 11.2.13

Do you ever feel weak and weary?  I speak from example of myself that I tend to take on more than I can chew.  We all have the willingness to work.  We work hard at our jobs, at life, inside of the gym but do we ever take time to recharge our own batteries with rest.  We sometimes need to step away from all the clutter in our lives and focus on why we work so hard to begin with.  What are we working for anyway?  God wants us to take a break and get some rest.  He set aside a full day of rest after creation as an example for us to follow.  Jesus understood the needs and limitations of his disciples and took them away for a break.  Work is good, but it must be balanced by regular attention to the health of your body, mind, soul, and spirit.  Whole life comes from holy rest.  Take time to seek rest from God.  Spend time in the word free of distractions.  Take the time to remember who and why we are working so hard for.

It is useless for you to work so hared from early morning until late at night, anxiously working for food to eat; for God gives rest to his loved ones.~Psalm 127:2

The creation of the heavens and the earth and everything in them was completed.  On the seventh day, having finished his task, God rested from all his work.  And God blessed the seventh day and declared it holy, because it was the day when he rested from his work of creation.~Genesis 2:1-3

I use to love about ten minutes of the news in the morning.  Just give me an idea of what is going around the world.  This morning I listened to the government shutdown.  Are they going to raise the debt ceiling?  Are people going to get their social security checks?  It doesn’t sound good and you wonder how long will this go on?  It just made me realize that we serve a God with no boundaries.  There is no ceiling that has to be raised for him to perform mighty works that only he can.  His power will never run out or shutdown.  Our hope has to come from him or else we will feel like the Free Fall at Six Flags.  Wondering if we going to puke or pass out from the whip lash of emotions that take over when allow our self to worry about all these things we have no control over.  Place your trust in him and you will never be disappointed.  God is awesome – he is omniscient (all knowing).

For he looks to the ends of the earth
and sees everything under the heavens.
Job 28:24

Under today’s post there is a link about what matters most to Pat Sherwood.  Basically what his point is, we all have too much stuff.  If we are stock piling our junk somewhere for some reason that we think we might use it down the road.  Guess what?  You won’t.  I like to take the article further and ask, “What matters most to you?”  The truth is everything on this earth will pass away, including you and me.  We will leave the earth the way we entered.  We cannot take anything with us.  This should be motivation to drive us to be more of an impact on people’s life.  Not to focus on our earthly gains but our eternal gains.

Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal.
Matthew 6:19

One of my favorite movies is Forest Gump.  His famous words are, “Life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you are going to get”.  Can we all say Amen to that.  Just when everything is calm you get blind sided.  Maybe your life feels like it is a mad rush all the time and you wonder how it feels just to stop and slow down.  God gave us an owner manual to refer to everyday and it is his word.  It will guide and direct us and when the unexpected happens, it will give us peace and understanding.  You never what lays ahead in life but be sure you have a way to get through it.

Trust in the LORD with all your heart And do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He will make your paths straight.Proverbs 3:5-6

Do you know of someone struggling right now? It could be yourself or someone close to you. Do we take the time to pray for that person? The bible tells us not grow weary and lose heart. Doesn’t that seem hard to do these days. Everyone is weary and it is hard not to lose heart. That is when we focus on everything around us and fail to look to God. We should have a passion to pray for others and hope that others are praying for us.

Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.
James 5:16

God’s power has no limitations. Often due to our limited understanding and limited faith, we place limitations on God. We are to trust Him with everything. Everything!!!! That means don’t hold on to anything that troubles you. We like to feel like we have some level of control if we worry about something. Only will God work when we let go and let him have total control.

Thou art the God that doest wonders: thou hast declared thy strength among the people.
Psalm 77:14

I admire people that work in the health field especially people that work in the ER.  I always wonder what is going through their head when they deal with life and death situations.  How do doctors know what decision to make?  Experience, knowledge, talent, etc?  We may not have stressful jobs in that sense what when life has stressful situations, how do we handle them?  We never what the day will bring.  Spending time in the Word guards our minds and thoughts and allow us to focus on Him so that when the unexpected happens, our emotions don’t take over but our confidence in our knowledge of the truth.  The truth will be our foundation in the time of the storms.

“Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock. And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell, and great was the fall of it.”
Matthew 7:24-27

Summer has come to an end and now we embrace the beginning of Fall.  Looking forward to cooler temps, less bugs, football season, etc..  We are use to the seasons and the changes in weather.  The variety keeps us out of our comfort zone and always ready for a change.  Our life has different seasons as well.  Nothing ever stays the same.  You start off your life trying to figure out who you are and what to do with your life.  If you have  children, they grow up and go off to college or start careers and families of their own.  Your worries change from one thing to the next.  Whatever the case may be or where you are at in life, one thing  is for sure.  Nothing stays the same.  There is only one constant in life and that is your relationship with the Lord.  He will never leave you or forsake.  He loves you.  Through our seasons of life, sometimes good, sometimes bad.  He is the same.  We can worry about all the unknowns and allow our emotions to get the best of us.  Or, we could say Lord here I am, I can do nothing without you.  When we do that our life starts to have hum to it.  Maybe life will take you for a ride but one thing you can count on is God is the same today, tomorrow and forever. Whatever is has already been, and what will be has been before;and God will call the past to account.  Ecclesiastes 3:15

There is a time for everything,
and a season for every activity under the heavens:
a time to be born and a time to die,

a time to plant and a time to uproot,
a time to kill and a time to heal,
a time to tear down and a time to build,
a time to weep and a time to laugh,
a time to mourn and a time to dance,
a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them,
a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing,
a time to search and a time to give up,
a time to keep and a time to throw away,
a time to tear and a time to mend,
a time to be silent and a time to speak,
a time to love and a time to hate,
a time for war and a time for peace.
Ecclesiastes 3:1-8

Do you ever feel stagnant?  What is the definition of stagnant? One is, not flowing in a current or stream.  Have you ever seen a pond where the water is not moving?  Most of the time it is not a pretty sight.  The other definition is, not advancing or developing.  Many people feel that way about our economy.  Whatever comes to your mind when you hear the word stagnant, do you think of yourself.  Do you feel that way in your job?  Has it become a repetitive part of your life, the same thing day in and day out.  Do you feel stagnant in church?  You attend but you are just going through the motions and not experiencing growth in the Lord.  What about at home?  We all fall into routine.  Is there relationships being built and time spent together at home?  Are you advancing or developing in these areas?  Or, are you like the nasty pond that the ducks don’t even want to swim in?  We fall into complacency and Satan uses our weaknesses to draw us from where God wants us to be. God is greater and our weakness is no barrier to the purpose of God.  But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.  2 Cor 12:9.  If you answer yes to any of the above, go to the Lord and lay your burden at His feet.  We have to actively seek Him and make efforts to grow and resist being stagnant.

But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us.  We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; Persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed.
2 Corinthians 4:7-9
