Self-control is something we exercise everyday in our life. How much we eat, how much we exercise, how much money we spend, etc… Self-control is a fruit of the Spirit. It is hard to keep every area of our life balanced. But, if we are not careful, lack of self-control can bring damage to our health and well-being.

“Like a city whose walls are broken down is a man who lacks self-control.” Proverbs 25:28

Have you ever experienced moments of praise and worship in your life and if so how did it affect your heart? Do you desire to have that fellowship? Do you feel that it is essential in your walk with God? Praise reminds us who God is. Praise also reminds us of who we are. It helps keep things in perspective. We have to have a humble heart and acknowledge how great God is.

“Ah Lord God! behold, thou has made the heaven and the earth by thy great power and stretched out arm, and there is nothing too hard for thee.”
Jeremiah 32:17

Grace is God’s unmerited favor toward sinful humanity. Do you ever realize how bad we need God’s grace? God’s grace is what we are saved by when we believe in Him. Grace is a beautiful thing and we should thank God every day and realize that His grace is sufficient.

“He is so rich in kindneess and grace that he purchased our freedom with the blood of his Son and forgave our sins.”
Ephesians 1:7

How do you feel when your clothes are dirty? Have you ever been in a situation when you didn’t have a clean pair of clothes for a more than one day? When you get a shower and put on clean smelling clothes, don’t you feel better. The same is with our sin. We feel better when we get rid of it and clothe ourselves clean. God makes us a new creature in Him. We put of the old things and put on the new.

That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts;
And be renewed in the spirit of your mind;
And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness
.
Ephesians 4:22-24

A reverential fear of the Lord is a wholesome motive in our lives to want to please Him and it affects how we deal with others. We will make wiser decisions in life if we fear our heavenly Father.  Fearing the Lord keeps us safe and gives us peace in Him.  Just as a child fears the consequences from their parents if they do something wrong, as children of God we fear disappointing our father.

The angel of the LORD encamps around those who fear him,
and he delivers them.
Taste and see that the LORD is good;
blessed is the one who takes refuge in him.
Fear the LORD, you his holy people,
for those who fear him lack nothing.
The lions may grow weak and hungry,
but those who seek the LORD lack no good thing.

Psalm 34:7-10

In Christ alone is all we can be sure of. Our confidence is very short lived if it is not in the Lord. Our source of strength and knowledge should come from His word everyday. When we fail to do that we make wrong decisions and place importance on things that don’t really matter. We cannot have a false assurance of our salvation or our relationship with Christ. Because He is the only constant, yesterday, today and tomorrow.

Jesus said, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the father except through me.” John 14:6

Gold is refined by the fire which heats it until the impurities come out. When we are in a trial in our life is representational of this fire. God uses it for good and often we come out a better person if we allow God to do a work in our heart.  When we are pressed in life is when we allow God to be our strength and lay aside the idea that we ever had control, because God is the author and perfector of our faith.

See, I have refined you, though not as silver;
I have tested you in the furnace of affliction.
Isaiah 48:10

Have you taken time today to show your thankfulness to God? The average person only calls on the Lord in times of distress. I know I am guilty of just that. I sometimes get complacent about praising God during the normal times and have to constantly remind myself to praise the Lord at all times. Don’t wait until you must call on the Lord in deperate times, show him your thankfulness at all times. When is the last time you just stopped what you were doing and thanked God for your health, and the ablility to get up and go to your job and work? Take time to be grateful for all the things God has done for us and we have taken for granted.

I will praise you, O lord, with all my heart; I will tell of all your wonders. I will be glad and rejoice in you; I will sing praise to your name, O Most High. Psalm 9:1-2

Are there people in your life that are hard to forgive?  When you see someone that wronged you in your past, do you feel the resentment well up inside of you?  Those feelings of resentment can be a heavy weight to carry.  Maybe a situation should arise in your future and someone could really lash out against you.  How do you think as Christians we should react?  The bible says do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.  The reaction that we initially have is to defend ourselves and let them have it.  But, what the Bible says we can overcome evil with good.  That would be a lot more rewarding then feeling bad if we said something we would regret.

“If your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give hime something to drink.  In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head.”
Romans 12:20

Integrity means knowing what you believe and living as though you believe it.  No one is a better model of this than Jesus.  Though we can never be perfect as he was, we can always grow in integrity.  This involves being faithful in every area of your life, no matter how small.  In fact, you’ll probably find that it is in the small things that your integrity will be tested the most.

Unless you are faithful in small matters, you won’t be faithful in large ones.  If you cheat even a little, you won’t be honest with greater responsibilities.  Luke 16:10
