Someone asked me the other day if the Wod With God was a CrossFit thing?  No, I replied. It is something that we wanted to incorporate into our website.  The Wod With God was intended to strengthen people in their spiritual walk.  We talk about strength all day in the gym but if we are weak spiritually that is more important than the physical.  For those of you who have noticed that this hasn’t been posted as frequently than it had originally started, the only excuse is poor time management.  The error is in becoming so busy and forgetting what matters most.

I beleive now more than ever we are under attack and the only way to overcome is to stay close to the Lord.  We become complacent and go through the motions and that is when are most vulnerable.  If our day starts out ill equipped and not mentally prepared to face the obstacles we face at work or home we will find our self defeated and frustrated.

I know people talk to me about how they prepare for their wod through out the day.  After the wod is posted they start strategizing.  What shoes to wear, what shorts do I squat in better, what to eat for lunch, how much water to drink and so on.  What if we prepared our hearts and mind the same way everyday in the Truth. Satan is very subtle and knows when we are most vulnerable.  One of the strongest tools he has in how micromanaged our lifes have become and how little time we spend with the Lord because everything else takes precedence.
For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.  Ephesians 6:13

Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of His might.  Ephesians 6:10

How many times have you recited the Lord’s prayer and at the end, say in the name of the Father, Son and the Holy Spirit. The trinity is the union of three in one Godhead. Some people may not understand what that means or that as a humans, we too are composed of three parts because we are made in God’s image. Body, soul and spirit.  May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. 1 Thessalonians 5:23

Our human will stands in guard until we surrender our will to the Lord’s. The Holy Spirit takes residence within you and bears witness with our spirit.   Man not only has a living soul but he is a living soul. The Bible says: “And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and man became a living soul” Genesis 2:7. The body is the tabernacle of the Spirit.  While on earth we have our present body but for those who have beleived will be renewed.  So much excitement about what God promises.

May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.
2 Corinthians 13:14

Do you struggle with trust?  Trusting in anything apart from the Lord puts us all in a dangerous spot.  We hear rumors of more terror attacks, he go to the grocery store and wonder how much it is going to cost for three bags of groceries, our local news usually has some face attached to a horrible crime.  So, how do we trust?  Sometimes the people we love the most, let us down.  Causing us to question love and loyalty.  The bible tells us to commit our way to the Lord, trust in him.  If we align ourselves in God’s word everyday, our desires become God’s desires.  We find that the things of this world are not out of the Lord’s grasp. We are not shaken and devastated by what Satan is out to destroy because God is greater.  Make him your heart’s desire and you will not be disappointed or alone.  Trust is opposite of fear.  It is the remedy of overcoming your obstacles in life.

Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy, for you are receiving the end result of your faith, the salvation of your souls 1 Peter 1:8-9

One thing I love about CrossFit is how it humbles us.  No matter what your strength is you will have a weakness somewhere.  Our weakness humbles us in the gym and in life.  If life was smooth sailing and we were great at everything and never had any problems, would we depend on God for anything?   Romans 8:28, and we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.  What this means is God uses everything in believers’  lives and everything encompasses good and bad.  But the difficult things cause us to be broken and transformed in his likeness.  Everything that happens to us, the easy, the difficult, saddness and pain have a purpose, that is to make us more like Jesus.  The “good” in Romans 8:28 is referring to the eternal good.  The spiritual goodness that last forever not just here on for the time on earth.  Which when compared to eternity will be like a blink of an eye.

In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans.  And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God’s people in accordance with the will of God.
Romans 8:26-27

The topic of the news headline story on ABC was the Crisis Point.  Our country, our world, our homes, our schools, our jobs are all at a crisis point right now.  You get the feeling of despair when you hear the details of what is going on all around us.  Our future is very unpredictable for all of us on earth.  But if we focus on the truth that has been here since the beginning of time, literally we see that we are told of uncertain times and who we should have our trust in.  The word of God tells us about in the beginning and it also has words of wisdom for the middle and the end.  God says,I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty.

Alpha and omega are the first and last letters of the Greek alphabet. One of the meanings of Jesus being the “Alpha and Omega” is that He was at the beginning of all things and will be at the close. It is equivalent to saying He always existed and always will exist.  John 1:3, All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.

Trusting in the creator of all things relieves any despair and supplies peace.  He may not reveal things to you the way you think he should but He is in control and wants you to trust in him.  He is found in the first verse of Genesis and in the last verse of Revelation.  There is no other like him.

Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.
Hebrews 12:2

Last weekend Americans celebrated Independence Day.  Merriam-Webster gives this definition of Independence Day, a holiday celebrating the anniversary of a country’s independence from another country that ruled it in the past;especially : July 4 celebrated as a legal holiday in the U.S. in honor of the day when the Declaration of Independence was signed in 1776.

Freedom should not be taken for granted.  Our freedom as Christians should not be taken for granted either.  When Christ died on the cross, he defeated the death sentence we were all born with.  We can be free from the burden of our sin and live victorious in him.  We all have things that weigh us down from running the race of life. In Hebrews 12:1-3,  Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.
For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.
Matthew 11:28-30

The Lord at times works our circumstances to humble us. By doing so, He reveals how dependent we are on Him for victorious living. This is how He eliminates the idol of self-effort from our pursuit of holiness. It is also His way of achieving other purposes in our lives.

Our heavenly Father has more in mind than simply exposing the weakness of our flesh—that is simply a means to something greater. He intends to put us on display for all eternity as examples of His grace and goodness. He wants the angels to see the body of Christ and stand in awe before this dazzling demonstration of His handiwork.

What would you and I need to do to qualify for this purpose? Is there any way we can possibly understand the full scope of His designs for our lives? What must be done so that we may live in the fullness of everything He has in mind for His children?

We don’t have all the answers to these questions. As a result, we have difficulty understanding why God at times allows us to fail. If we could only see the glorious final product He has in mind, we would gladly abandon our self-effort and yield to His transforming power. But instead, we often insist on doing things our way. And as long as we remain in this mode of thinking, God will allow us to fail.

There’s a better way. It is simply to live by faith, trusting the Holy Spirit within us every moment of every day to conform us to the likeness of God’s Son Jesus Christ.

For those whom He foreknew, He also predestined to become conformed to the image of His Son, so that He would be the firstborn among many brethren; and these whom He predestined, He also called; and these whom He called, He also justified; and these whom He justified, He also glorified.~Romans 8:29-30

Why do we have such a hard time admitting our weakness?  We all have something in our life that we are strong at and some things not so much.  Having young children close together you see where one loves to read and the other one hates it.  One stresses about things and one doesn’t.  So why as we get older and we feel like we have to be awesome at everything and when were not, we consider ourselve a failure.  Are we?  No.  By whose standards do we measure ourself to?  If it is by what the “world” says we should be, just throw that out the window.  Measure your success by God’s word.  He tells us in Galatians he tells us,  But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.  These are the things that matter.  This is what makes us successful.  Only the Lord can supply these to our life through his Word and a relationship with him.

When you look at your weakness, what it is it defined by.  The fruit of the spirit defined above states that against such things there is no law. For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever you want.  Even when we become a child of God, we will still wrestle with weakness.  We are only overcomers through Christ.

But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.
2 Corinthians 12:9

Here is a riddle:  What is it that is too unimportant to pray about yet too big for God to handle?  The answer, of course, is: “nothing.”  Yet sometime, when the challenges of the day seem overwhelming, we may spend more time worrying about our troubles than praying about them.  And, we may spend more time fretting about our problems than solving them.  A far better strategy is to pray as if everything depended entirely upon god and to work as if everything depended entirely upon us.  What we see as problems God sees as opportunities and if we trust him completely, we must acknowledge that even when our own vision is dreadfully impaired, His vision is perfect.  Today and every day, let us trust God by courageously confronting the things that we see as problems and He sees as possibilities.  We are all faced with a series of great opportunities, brilliantly disguised as unsolvable problems.  Unsolvable without God’s wisdom, that is.

As for God, his way is perfect.  All the Lord’s promises prove true.  He is a shield for all who look to him for protection.~Psalm 18:30

A rebellious person is one who resists authority or control over his/her life.  I can remember when I was a teenager, yes I can remember that long ago..when I thought I knew it all.  That is time in our life when we are not a child but not quite an adult, but we want to break free and make our own rules.  Any correction or conviction is totally opposed and we often find our self at a dead end.  We can bring heartache to those who love us the most.  As adults we might grow out of this rebellion or become bitter and feel sorry for ourselves and wonder why we got dealt such a bad hand in life.  When we are the ones that are responsible.  Breaking away from the life the Lord has for you can have serious consequences.  He placed his commandments in place for protection.  Learn from your mistakes and don’t let them make you bitter, but make you better.

because they rebelled against God’s commands
and despised the plans of the Most High.
So he subjected them to bitter labor;
they stumbled, and there was no one to help.
Psalm 107:11-12
