We have doors open in our life and when walk through them sometimes we find obstacles that we weren’t expecting.  Opposition arises and either deters us or causes us to continue.  Nothing can hinder God’s work in our life if you believe and trust in Him.  Even when we find our self somewhere we never thought we would be.  If we are praying for HIS will not ours we will always open the right doors and if we open the wrong one, he will redirect our path.

 Therefore, my dear friends, as you have always obeyed—not only in my presence, but now much more in my absence—continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purposePhilippians 2:12,13

In Matthew 7:7, “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.”  Many of you have probably heard this.  We sing it in hymns, read it in God’s word.  Do you beleive it?  Knock and the door shall be open unto you.  Can you imagine your child coming to you, banging on the door and screaming for help and you just ignore them?  God doesn’t ignore His children either.  Do we understand what He does for us, simply because He loved us.  He knows our heart better than we do.

David says, Know thou the God of thy father, and serve him with a perfect heart and a willing mind. God is made known by his works and word. Revelation alone shows the whole character of God, in his providence, his holy law, his condemnation of sinners, his blessed gospel, and the ministration of the Spirit to all true believers. The natural man cannot receive this knowledge of God. But thus we learn the value of the Saviour’s atonement, and of the sanctification of the Holy Spirit, and are influenced to walk in all his commandments. It brings a sinner to his proper place at the foot of the cross, as a poor, guilty, helpless worm, deserving wrath, yet expecting every thing needful from the free mercy and grace of God our Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ. Having been forgiven much, the pardoned sinner learns to love much.” ~Matthew Henry’s Commentary

 “And you, my son Solomon, acknowledge the God of your father, and serve him with wholehearted devotion and with a willing mind, for the LORD searches every heart and understands every desire and every thought. If you seek him, he will be found by you; but if you forsake him, he will reject you forever. 1 Chronicles 28:9

One thing about CrossFit that has helped me is to be mentally tough.  Your body benefits from CrossFit but so does your mind.  You have to mentally think no matter how tough this workout is going to be, I am going to finish.  Just when you think you can’t run anymore, you can’t do another pull-up, another burpee, you make yourself complete the task.  This determination carries over in other aspects of our life.

We did a WOD in honor of September 11, and it was one of the hardest ones we have ever done.  The whole time I thought about the  firefighters, police men/women, military.  They have to be mentally tough every day to do their jobs. When you watch the firefighters that didn’t think twice about running into the World Trade Center to save people, to do their job.  I admire them and their perseverance and forever grateful to the jobs they do everyday.  God gives us the ability to be mentally tough through His word.  He tells us to fear nothing but Him.  He has fought the battle for us. Put on the full armour of God and do your job everyday.

“The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy.”
Martin Luther King, Jr.

It is God who arms me with strength and makes my way perfect. He makes my feet like the feet of a deer; he enables me to stand on the heights. He trains my hands for battle; my arms can bend a bow of bronze. You give me your shield of victory, and your right hand sustains me; you stoop down to make me great. You broaden the path beneath me, so that my ankles do not turn.
Psalm 18:32-36

Do you feel like you get discouraged easily?  It seems if we focus on the world and the news we hear everyday we can get down and out easily.  Our circumstances can weigh us down on the outside but on the inside we can renew our faith everyday.  The eternal reward of glory keeps our eyes focused on the Lord and that these troubles are just for a time.

For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day.
For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory;
While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal
2 Corinthians 4:16-18

Wisdom is more valuable than gold.  Riches can come and go and wisdom can never be taken away.  Do not allow arrogance to enter in your life and cause you to fall.  Hold on tight to the word of God and wisdom  He gives us through His word.  Submit yourself to the Lord and be humble.  This is your protection and  your promise.

  How much better to get wisdom than gold,
   to get insight rather than silver!
 The highway of the upright avoids evil;
   those who guard their ways preserve their lives.
 Pride goes before destruction,
   a haughty spirit before a fall.
 Better to be lowly in spirit along with the oppressed
   than to share plunder with the proud.
Proverbs 16:16-19

Our speech reveals what is in our heart.  Do our words tear people down or build them up?  Is our glass half-empty or half-full?  Do we tend to see the negative in everything or have the potential to dig the slightest postiveness out of situations?  I love this verse, “Gracious words are a honeycomb,  sweet to the soul and healing to the bones.”(Proverbs 16:24)  Are your words sweet or sour?

From the fruit of their mouth a person’s stomach is filled;
   with the harvest of their lips they are satisfied.
 The tongue has the power of life and death,
   and those who love it will eat its fruit
Proverbs 18:20-21
