It amazes me how each year, the stores get Christmas decorations out before the end of October. Christmas is my favorite time of the year. I also feel like Dave Ramsey said, “Christmas comes around every year at the same time, why does it hit us at Thanksgiving and we almost choke on our turkey dinner when we realize we have a month till Christmas.” The truth is Christmas should be celebrated all year! We get so wrapped up in the gifts we forget the true reason for the season. But, Christ should be celebrated more than just during a season.
Reading in Luke, chapter 2 is the birth of Jesus. I love reading the story about Jesus’ birth. Do you remember in verse 7, it reads:” and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.” The inn was full and had no room for the Firstborn, the Messiah, who came to this earth for us. Do we make room for Jesus? What are our priorities and where does God fit? We are just like the people who turned Mary and Joseph away. We get so wrapped up in everything else we might have a little left over for Christ.
Time is so strained these days. Sports, school, work can take up our time to the point that we get in a survival mode. The truth is we will never survive anything if we don’t make room for Christ. He should be our top priority. As we begin to get ready for Christmas, start celebrating now! Christ was born for you!
But the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, you have found favor with God. You will be with child and give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David, and he will reign over the house of Jacob forever, his kingdom will never end.”
