When you pray, do you expect the Lord to listen to you or do you expect listen to the Lord? Often we our communication with the Lord involves our list of our needs. God knows our needs. We should still pray to the Lord over these needs but sometimes the communication can just be silently waiting on Him to show you. Like Samuel in the bible, it took three times for the Lord to get his attention. Sometimes we are quick to speak and slow to listen.
“Then Eli realized that the Lord was calling the boy. So Eli told Samuel, “Go and lie down, and if he calls you, say, ‘Speak, Lord, for your servant is listening.'” So Samuel went and lay down in his place.”
