Don’t take your loved ones for granted. Take the time to tell each other you love them. If you are feeling like your life is like ground hog day, be thankful. Just because you are in a routine doesn’t mean that is bad. You never know when something unexpected could happen and reshape your family and life forever.
A very dear friend to my family recently lost their son. The father recently wrote expressing how much he grieved his son. Reading the words of how much their life has changed and will never be the same. His place at the table is empty, his seat in the car is empty, the silence of him not being there is always present. None of us are promised tomorrow. How do you treat those around you?
Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. James 4:14
Today is Valentines Day. Couples take the time to celebrate their relationship and joy of being together. Children often celebrate it by making cards with candy and stickers. It is a fun day and should be observed more often. We get so busy and tied up in work we often forget just to tell our loved ones, we love them. Everyone likes to feel appreciated and loved. So, take the time today and every day to tell your friends and family you love them.
Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God. 1 John 4:7
When we are waiting to be delivered from something in our life do we try to be so proactive or do we allow God to work? Sometimes we think God can’t handle it so we throw our actions in. I love in Exodus when Moses told the Israelites to be still, the Lord will fight for you. If you are waiting on the Lord to move on your behalf, did you ever think he was waiting on you to be ready? God keeps his promises and never fails. It is us who fail him in our disbelief and over anxiousness. Waiting on the Lord is a form of obedience.
Moses answered the people, “Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the LORD will bring you today. The Egyptians you see today you will never see again. The LORD will fight for you; you need only to be still.” Exodus 14:13-14
What is self-control? It is defined as : restraint exercised over one’s own impulses, emotions, or desires. The bible says in Galatians 5:23,gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. We all struggle with control over some area in our life. Here is a quote by Charles Stanley, “Your thoughts are the determining factor as to whose mold you are conformed to. Control your thoughts and you control the direction of your life. ” We want to behave in a way that is pleasing to the Lord and we have to ask daily for self control in all things.
Better to be patient than powerful; better to have self-control than to conquer a city. Proverbs 16:32
Have you ever heard the song Van Zant sings, Help Somebody? He sings help somebody if you can and get right with the man. Which means get right with God. We all have our own struggles but as long as we are right with God that is all that matters. God is the only thing that will always be there for you, never changes, He loves us unconditionally. That doesn’t give us right to live how we want to live and just expect God to bless us. We have to stay close to him and live by his Word. Profound and simple, Get Right With The Man.
And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever- the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you.
As we approach Thanksgiving tomorrow, do you start thinking about what you are thankful for besides a day off? The truth is we take so much for granted. We may all have something in our life right now that is hard but we can find something to be thankful for. In the midst of all your turkey day plans tomorrow take time to tell your Heavenly Father how thankful you are for him and all that he has done for you. Most of all, he sent his only Son to die for us. Now, that is something to be thankful for!
Giving thanks always and for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ
Discipline is really hard. What gives us the balance in life we need? Without constantly praying for help in our weaknesses we will be overcome by them. Sometimes we can get on top of a weakness and get control to find a weakness somewhere else. You will never be strong at everything, all the time. If your weakness is overeating, pray for discipline. If your weakness laziness, pray for help to become more active. If your weakness is disorganization, pray for organization. If your weakness is overspending, pray for wisdom in spending. It is not always a physical weakness but often always a mental. Train your mind in the Word of God and his promises for you and your life.
Fix these words of mine in your hearts and minds; tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Teach them to your children, talking about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates. Deuteronomy 11:18-20
