WHAT IS CROSSFIT?

CrossFit is a core strength and conditioning program which combine a variety of elements from gymnastics, weightlifting, and metabolic conditioning into workouts designed to improve your overall fitness, health, and quality of life.  CrossFit is evidence based fitness.  Each day you will be able to monitor you fitness level through workouts that are measurable, observable, and repeatable.  We base our workouts on General Physical Preparedness.  By doing so, we prepare you for the challenges that daily life has to offer.

WHAT IS CROSSFIT KIDS?

CrossFit Kids is not simply a scaled down version of CrossFit.  It is a specifically designed program for children and teenagers 3-18 years old.  There is a major difference between how children, teenagers, and adults become more fit and build strength.  Our CrossFit Kids program focuses on these variances with the goal to promote fitness at all age and ability levels.  CrossFit Kids main goal is to make fitness FUN!!!  Your child will learn many  skills and life lessons that will be the foundational buildings blocks to grow into productive, hard working, healthy adults.

IS CROSSFIT SAFE FOR MY CHILD?

Yes!!  Without a doubt.  There is a huge amount of scientific research out there that supports the fact that a proper strength and conditioning is not only safe, but extremely beneficial for growing children.  CrossFit Kids combines elements of gymnastics, bodyweight exercises, and weightlifting to optimize use of the ten general physical skills which include:  cardio-repiratory endurance, power, strength, stamina, speed, agility, flexibility, balance, accuracy, and coordination.  These elements are combined in a way to keep children engaged and having FUN, while introducing them to properly executed functional movements they will use throughout their life. 

HOW CAN CROSSFIT KIDS BENEFIT MY CHILD?

CrossFit Kids focuses on motor and cognitive skills by teaching children of all ages proper movements that they will be able to apply throughout their daily life.  This is done in an interactive group setting while challenging the children to focus on performing their movement correctly, count repititions, follow sequences and patterns, as well as goal setting and seeing the successes of great effort.  CrossFit Kids supplements a child or teen’s involvement in athletics by incorporating various strength and conditioning methods in a proper setting  and under proper supervision.  The CrossFit method of constantly varying the movements allows the child to improve at a vast array of movements as opposed to specializing in one area of fitness.  This makes for a more well rounded athlete.

CrossFit Kids also:

  • Improves overall fitness and atleticism
  • Instills the benefits of health and a positive body image at a young age (performance and WHAT I CAN DO vs.  HOW DO I LOOK)
  • Prevents and reverses childhood obesity and other related health issues
  • Teaches quality movement
  • Protects against injury
  • Creates an opportuntiy to improve life skills such as focus, hard work, perserverance, dedication, goal setting and achievement, nutrition, and proper functional movement.

WHAT IS THE STRUCTURE OF A CROSSFIT KIDS CLASS?

CrossFit kids classes are coached by certified trainers.   The goal of CrossFit Kids is to make exercise FUN and to help children and teens move more efficiently.  By achieving these goals, CrossFit Murphy will assist in seeing that children have a proper foundation to lead healthy, successful lives.  Classes are structured as followed:

  • CrossFit Kids (3-5 years old-Pre School age)
    -Class length (30 minutes)
    -Focus
    -Warm-up
    -WOD
    -Game
  • CrossFit Kids (6-12)
    -Class length (45 minutes)
    -Warm-up
    -Skill Work
    -WOD
    -Game
  • CrossFit Teens (maturity level dependant)
    -Class length (1 hour)
    -Warm-up
    -Skill work
    -Workout of the Day
    -Skill work

THE GOAL IS TO MAKE FITNESS FUN!!!

WHAT CAN I DO AS A PARENT?

Parents are encouraged to support their children throughout our program by staying and watching each class.  You can also make sure that your child has consistent attendance each week as well as providing your child with healthy meals at home and school.  As your child progresses throughout the CrossFit Kids program, we will be focussing on proper nutrition to keep them performing at their best.  This will consist of them having a good balance of protein, carbohydrates, and fats at every meal and snack.  You play the most intricate role in your child’s diet as a parent, so we encourage you to stay and hear the things we emphasize to you child when it comes to nutrition.  Also, please inform us as coaches of anything that should be known about your childs health that would be relevant to their progress during th program.
