What do you think the Scriptures mean when they say that the spirit God has placed within us is filled with envy?(James 4:5)  The scriptures ask this and do we understand what it means?  As Christians we accept the Holy Spirit within us.  The Holy Spirit is not of this world and therefore opposes the world.  This concept is hard for people to comprehend because our God is a loving and compassionate God.  The fact that He is jealous of us is not in the way we are accustomed to.  We think of jealousy in a way when someone is jealous in a bad way.  The world will offer us things that are fleeting and failing.  God offers us a life that is everlasting.  He is jealous because He loves His children and wants them to receive what He has for them.

Moses instructed the Israelites of this in Deuteronomy to not make an idol of anything before God.  Seek the Lord and you will find Him if you look with all your heart and your soul.

Take heed unto yourselves, lest ye forget the covenant of the LORD your God, which he made with you, and make you a graven image, [or] the likeness of any [thing], which the LORD thy God hath forbidden thee.  For the LORD thy God is a consuming fire, even a jealous God.
Deuteronomy 4:23-24

Do you find yourself judging others?  Many times we judge someone else so easily and are blinded to see our own flaws.  If we have the Holy Spirit within us, our job is to love and encourage people.  The opposite would be to tear them down.  “Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye?  Matthew 7:3″  Examine your heart and think about what do we spend time obsessing about.  If it is finding something wrong with everyone around us then we should definitely look in the mirror.

Brothers and sisters, do not slander one another. Anyone who speaks against a brother or sister or judges them speaks against the law and judges it. When you judge the law, you are not keeping it, but sitting in judgment on it.  There is only one Lawgiver and Judge, the one who is able to save and destroy. But you—who are you to judge your neighbor?  James 4:11-12

Do you hold on to the things of this world?  What comfort have they brought you?  This is a story of a man who didn’t want to give up his earthly posessions to follow Christ.

Jesus had promised a man treasure in heaven if he followed him (v. 21; compare 6:20); the man preferred to keep his treasure on earth (19:22). The well-to-do young man of 19:16-22 was like many “First World” Christians today. We want God to affirm that we are religious enough without costing us anything more than we have already been offering him. We trust only tentatively the value of heaven’s kingdom and hence are prepared to sacrifice only little for it; but one who is not sufficiently convinced of the gospel’s truth to sacrifice everything (compare 13:44-46) will not prove worthy of it. This is not to say that we are justified by our merit-we must receive the kingdom like a child (19:13-15). But genuine, saving faith is practically shown not by merely reciting a prayer but by living consistently with what we profess. ( Matthew 19 bible gateway commentary)

The point of this story is that we all want the good things that God promises, but what are we willing to sacrifice for it?  Everything on this earth is temporal but the kingdom of God is everlasting.

 Just then a man came up to Jesus and asked, “Teacher, what good thing must I do to get eternal life?”
 “Why do you ask me about what is good?” Jesus replied. “There is only One who is good. If you want to enter life, keep the commandments.”
 “Which ones?” he inquired.
  Jesus replied, “‘You shall not murder, you shall not commit adultery, you shall not steal, you shall not give false testimony, honor your father and mother, and ‘love your neighbor as yourself.’
 “All these I have kept,” the young man said. “What do I still lack?”
  Jesus answered, “If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.”
  When the young man heard this, he went away sad, because he had great wealth.
Matthew 19:16-22

Jesus is translated from the Greek iesous, which originally came from the Hebrew yahowshua, means “Jehovah is salvation”.   Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.”  Acts 4:12.  Praise His name and who He is.  We get focus on what does God do for us and not on who he is.  He is our Blessed Redeemer!

 Therefore God exalted him to the highest place
   and gave him the name that is above every name,
that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow,
   in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord,
   to the glory of God the Father.
Phillipians 2:9-11

Do you ever think about what it is going to be like to dwell in our promised inheritance that Christ has for us?  To be in heaven and have the joy and the peace of eternity.  When we see all the beauty of nature in spring, do you ever think about how beautiful it will be in heaven.  Celebrating Easter in Spring is really amazing how the timing is.  Just as we receive new life in Christ because of Easter, we also see new life all around us this time of year.

They will come and shout for joy on the heights of Zion;
   they will rejoice in the bounty of the LORD—
the grain, the new wine and the olive oil,
   the young of the flocks and herds.
They will be like a well-watered garden,
   and they will sorrow no more
Jeremiah 31:12

 The Bible teaches that the object of faith is God and His Son Jesus Christ.  Do you find this any easy task to have faith, or do you have to work hard at faith.  Who or what do you put your all in all in?  If it is anything apart from the Lord than it is a false hope.

know that a person is not justified by the works of the law, but by faith in Jesus Christ. So we, too, have put our faith in Christ Jesus that we may be justified by faith in Christ and not by the works of the law, because by the works of the law no one will be justified.
Galatians 2:16

There seems to be alot of anxiety and fear floating around these days.  You turn on the news and hear there may be some radiation found in milk.  Along with a string of more bad news all crammed in before your local weather in nine minutes.  Why does America feed off bad news?  The only way to overcome this negative mind set is to focus on the Good News found in the Bible.  It is alot more comforting and you can leave your house with encouragement rather than discouragement.

  Surely he has done great things!
  Do not be afraid, land of Judah;
   be glad and rejoice.
Surely the LORD has done great things!
  Do not be afraid, you wild animals,
   for the pastures in the wilderness are becoming green.
The trees are bearing their fruit;
   the fig tree and the vine yield their riches.
Be glad, people of Zion,
   rejoice in the LORD your God,
for he has given you the autumn rains
   because he is faithful.
He sends you abundant showers,
   both autumn and spring rains, as before.
The threshing floors will be filled with grain;
   the vats will overflow with new wine and oil.
 “I will repay you for the years the locusts have eaten—
   the great locust and the young locust
   the other locusts and the locust swarm
my great army that I sent among you.
 Joel 2:21-25

Do you strive to live wisely and guided?  Do we focus on moderation or accumulation?  If we live an unrestrained lifestyle, we give up our peace.  One of the fruits of the spirit is self-discipline.  If we don’t strive to have this we forfeit what God has to offer.  “A man without self-control is like a city broken into and left without walls”  Proverbs 25:28.

 Who is wise and understanding among you? Let them show it by their good life, by deeds done in the humility that comes from wisdom.  James 3:13

Were you ever called to the principal’s office growing up?  Did you feel nervous, scared a little sick at your stomach?  How do you think you will feel when you see Jesus face-to-face and have to account for actions on earth.  He already knows our personal history but everyone will face Judgement Day.

And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them.
And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.
And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works.
And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.
And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.
Revelation 20:11-15

Are you a Martha or a Mary?  This goes for men and women.  The story in Luke portrays Jesus coming to Martha’s house.  While Mary sat at His feet, Martha busied herself around the house picking up and preparing the meal.  Martha must have made the comment to Jesus, are you not concerned that Mary is not helping me?  Jesus answered, “Mary has chosen the better thing, and it will never be taken away from her”.

It is important to take care of our homes and daily duties but nothing should ever take place over sitting at the Master’s feet.  Everywhere we look we see a need.  We just have to be careful how to prioritize our precious time spent with God.

 Now it came to pass, as they went, that he entered into a certain village: and a certain woman named Martha received him into her house.
And she had a sister called Mary, which also sat at Jesus’ feet, and heard his word.
But Martha was cumbered about much serving, and came to him, and said, Lord, dost thou not care that my sister hath left me to serve alone? bid her therefore that she help me.
And Jesus answered and said unto her, Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things:
But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her.

Luke 10:38-42
